El número que aparece después del título de cada ley es el número de su capítulo. Las leyes se citan utilizando este número, precedido por el año o los años del reinado durante los cuales se celebró la sesión parlamentaria pertinente; así, la Ley de la Unión con Irlanda de 1800 se cita como "39 & 40 Geo. 3. c. 67", lo que significa que es la 67.ª ley aprobada durante la sesión que comenzó en el año 39 del reinado de Jorge III y que terminó en el año 40 de ese reinado. Tenga en cuenta que la convención moderna es utilizar números arábigos en las citas (por lo tanto, "41 Geo. 3" en lugar de "41 Geo. III"). Las leyes de la última sesión del Parlamento de Gran Bretaña y de la primera sesión del Parlamento del Reino Unido se citan como "41 Geo. 3".

Las leyes aprobadas por el Parlamento de Gran Bretaña no tenían un título abreviado ; sin embargo, algunas de estas leyes recibieron posteriormente un título abreviado mediante leyes del Parlamento del Reino Unido (como la Ley de Títulos Abreviados de 1896 ).

Antes de que la Ley de 1793 sobre la entrada en vigor de las leyes del Parlamento (Comienzo de la Ley) entrara en vigor el 8 de abril de 1793, se consideraba que las leyes aprobadas por el Parlamento de Gran Bretaña habían entrado en vigor el primer día de la sesión en la que se habían aprobado. Por este motivo, los años que figuran en la lista que figura a continuación pueden ser, de hecho, el año anterior a la aprobación de una ley en particular.
