53.º Regimiento Mediano (India)

El 53.º Regimiento de Artillería Mediana forma parte del Regimiento de Artillería del Ejército Indio .

El regimiento se formó como el 53.º Regimiento Compuesto de Montaña (Pack) el 1 de marzo de 1964 en Bareilly . El primer oficial al mando fue el teniente coronel Gurbachan Singh. Está compuesto por las baterías 531, 532 y 533. En el momento de su formación, una batería estaba equipada con  morteros Brandt de 120 mm y dos baterías con obuses de 3,7 pulgadas . ^{[ 1 ]}

El regimiento es un regimiento de una sola clase con soldados sijs . ^{[ 1 ]}

Tras pasar un año en Bareilly, el regimiento se trasladó a Se La - Bomdila en agosto de 1965 para participar en la Operación Ablaze. La unidad se trasladó a Lekhapani en noviembre de 1966, donde se convirtió en un regimiento motorizado. El regimiento fue enviado a Tirap en mayo de 1967 para hacer frente a la insurgencia Naga . Tras un período de servicio exitoso, el regimiento se trasladó a Bakloh en diciembre de 1968. Posteriormente, se trasladó a Dahung-Se La en Arunachal Pradesh en 1970. Durante la guerra de 1971 , se le encomendó la tarea de proteger las alturas de Se La- Tawang . Tras la guerra, la unidad se trasladó a Bharatpur y luego a Udhampur . El regimiento participó activamente en las operaciones de socorro y rescate durante las inundaciones de Bharatpur de 1975. ^{[ 1 ]}

In 1981, the regiment was equipped with the 75/24 Pack Howitzers and thus became a mountain regiment. It was posted to Tangdhar in Jammu and Kashmir close to the Line of Control (LoC). The unit moved to Dehradun in 1984. In 1989, the regiment was equipped with field guns and as a field regiment moved to Sikkim. Following an arduous tenure in Tangla, Lachung and Dahung, the unit was converted to a medium regiment in 1992. It was relocated to Bathinda and helped ensured the smooth conduct of Panchayat elections in 1993. In 1997, the regiment moved to Alwar and then to Baramulla, where it was converted to heavy mortar regiment. The unit moved from Baramulla to Amritsar after being converted to a medium regiment. In 2007, the unit shifted to the high altitude location of Gurez valley near the line of control for counter-terrorist operations. The regiment them moved to Samba, where its duties also involved securing National Highway 44.^[1]

• 122 mm D-30 howitzer
• 105 mm Indian field gun
• 105 mm Light field gun

• 130 mm M-46 Field Gun

The regiment has won the following gallantry awards–

• Major Kumandur Prabhakar Vinay – was posthumously awarded the Kirti Chakra, when he was on deputation with 34 Rashtriya Rifles.^[2][3]

• The regiment had the honour to participate with its guns in the Republic Day Parade in 1986.^[1]
• Havildar Jaswinder Singh represented the Indian Army team in Hammer throw in the Inter Services Athletic Meet, 2021.^[4]

• Lieutenant General KK Nanda – commanded the regiment and went on to become Chief of Staff, Central Command and Colonel Commandant, Remount Veterinary Corps.^[5]
• Brigadier Anil Kumar – commanded the regiment and retired as BGS (Combat Power), Army Training Command^[6]
