Letrero 'Tip Top Tap'

El Warwick Allerton - Chicago (anteriormente Allerton Hotel , Warwick Allerton Hotel Chicago y Allerton Crowne Plaza Hotel ) es un rascacielos hotelero de 25 pisos y 110 m (360 pies) de altura ubicado en la Magnificent Mile, en el área de Near North Side de Chicago , Illinois . [ 2 ] Fue el primer edificio de la ciudad en presentar retranqueos y torres pronunciadas, resultado de la ley de zonificación de 1923. [ 2 ] [ 3 ] El edificio fue declarado Monumento Histórico de Chicago el 29 de mayo de 1998. [ 4 ]  

Cuando el Hotel Allerton abrió sus puertas, contaba con catorce pisos de pequeñas habitaciones tipo apartamento para hombres y seis pisos similares para mujeres, con un total de 1000 habitaciones. El hotel también ofrecía eventos sociales, golf, ligas deportivas, una biblioteca, solárium y una revista propia. [ 5 ] Uno de los primeros residentes fue Louis Skidmore , fundador del estudio de arquitectura Skidmore, Owings & Merrill .

En las décadas de 1940 y 1950, el hotel albergaba un elegante salón en su último piso, llamado "Tip Top Tap". Aunque el salón cerró en 1961, el letrero que anuncia su existencia todavía se exhibe en el exterior del edificio. [ 3 ] Para 1963, la sala albergaba un nuevo restaurante, el Cloud Room, cuando Don McNeill trasladó su programa Don McNeill's Breakfast Club a ese lugar. After the Allerton Hotel was declared a Chicago landmark, it closed in August 1998 through May 1999 for a $40 million renovation.[5][6] The firm of Eckenhoff Saunders Architects oversaw restoration work which restored the hotel's bygone grandeur and upgraded mechanical systems.[7] When the hotel reopened as the Allerton Crowne Plaza Hotel, the twenty-third floor, which previously housed the Tip Top Tap and the Cloud Room, became the Renaissance Ballroom and a lounge opened on the second floor called Taps on Two featuring one of the Tip Top Tap's signature drinks, a Moscow mule.[5]

In November 2006, a partnership of Oxford Lodging and Perry Capital purchased the hotel from FelCor Lodging for $70 million.[8] The new owners ended the affiliation with Crowne Plaza and on February 2, 2007, the property was re-christened The Allerton Hotel. Shortly after the purchase, Oxford announced further renovations to the property.[3]

In March 2014, Warwick International Hotels, a New York–based hotel chain, purchased the Allerton and renamed it the "Warwick Allerton Hotel". Warwick acquired the Allerton from New York–based hedge fund manager Petra Capital Management LLC, which won a 2012-battle for control of the property in bankruptcy court.[9] They announced renovation plans which included a possible reopening the Tip Top Tap on the hotel's 23rd floor.[10]
