La batalla del monte Escorobas se libró en el año 88 a. C. entre la República Romana y el Ponto durante la Primera Guerra Mitridática . Los romanos estaban liderados por Manio Aquilio , mientras que las fuerzas mitridáticas estaban lideradas por Arquelao . El Ponto resultó victorioso. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] [ 3 ] [ 4 ] [ 5 ]
Tras la batalla, Aquilio huyó e intentó regresar a Italia . En Lesbos fue capturado y entregado a Mitrídates. Tras ser llevado a tierra firme, Aquilio fue colocado sobre un burro y llevado de vuelta a Pérgamo . Allí fue trasladado y ejecutado en el Teatro de Dioniso , situado en una colina de la Acrópolis. Se encendió una gran hoguera en el centro del teatro. Aquilio fue arrastrado por un caballo, montado por un soldado, y paseado alrededor de la hoguera mientras se fundían monedas de oro en crisoles .
