David Thomas (22 de julio de 1942 – 11 de mayo de 2017) fue un obispo anglicano galés . De 1996 a 2008, se desempeñó como obispo auxiliar provincial de la Iglesia en Gales . [ 1 ] En este cargo, brindó apoyo espiritual a quienes no podían aceptar la ordenación de mujeres como sacerdotes. [ 2 ]

Primeros años y educación

Thomas nació el 22 de julio de 1942 en Bangor , Gales. [ 3 ] [ 4 ] Se educó en Christ College, Brecon , una escuela privada en Brecon . [ 4 ] Estudió clásicos en Keble College, Oxford , graduándose con una licenciatura en Artes (BA) en 1964; según la tradición, su BA fue ascendida a una maestría en Artes (MA Oxon) en 1967. Ministerio ordenado

En las décadas de 1970 y 1980, Thomas trabajó en St Stephen's House, Oxford , un seminario teológico de la Iglesia de Inglaterra . Fue subdirector de 1975 a 1979 y director de 1982 a 1987. [ 1 ]

In November 1996, Thomas received a letter asking him to become the first Provincial Assistant Bishop (PAB) of the Church in Wales; in that role he would provide episcopal oversight to those priests and parishes that could not accept the ordination of women. Having accepted, he was consecrated a bishop on 21 December 1996 during a service at St Asaph Cathedral.[5] He stepped down as PAB and retired from full-time ministry in 2008.[6]

Personal life

On 1 April 1967, Thomas married Rosemary Christine Calton.[4][3] Together they had two children: one son and one daughter.[4]

On 11 May 2017, Thomas died suddenly, having just returned from a holiday; he was aged 74.[6] A Requiem Mass was held for him on 5 June 2017 at St Mary's Priory Church, Abergavenny.[6]
