Historia
Creación del Gran Londres: 1965
Mediante la Ley del Gobierno de Londres de 1963 , la región del Gran Londres se estableció oficialmente en 1965. [ 7 ]
La población del Gran Londres disminuyó después de la guerra. Entre 1951 y 1961, disminuyó en 204.364 personas y entre 1961 y 1971, en 540.097. [ 8 ]
Auge migratorio: de 1991 a la actualidad
A partir de 1997, Londres experimentó un cambio drástico en la composición de su población, lo que contrarrestó el descenso demográfico que se venía produciendo. En 1991, el 21,7% de la población de la ciudad era nacida en el extranjero, pero en 2011 esta cifra había aumentado al 36,7%.

Área urbana y metropolitana
En el censo de 2001, la población del área urbana del Gran Londres era de 8.278.251 habitantes. Etnicidad

Idiomas

En el censo de 2011 , 6.083.420 personas, o el 77,9%, de la población de Londres mayor de 3 años hablaban inglés como lengua principal. Otras 1.406.912 (19,8%) lo hablaban como segunda lengua, o bien o muy bien. [ 50 ] 271.693 (3,5%) no hablaban bien inglés, mientras que 47.917 (0,6%) no hablaban inglés en absoluto. [ 50 ]
2456 (<0,1 %) hablaban otros idiomas minoritarios del Reino Unido, siendo el galés el más común , y 2926 (<0,1 %) usaban la lengua de signos británica . [ 51 ] Esto muestra grandes desafíos para TfL y otros servicios gubernamentales.
