Gabriel Sandu (nacido el 8 de septiembre de 1963) es un economista y político rumano . Miembro del Partido Liberal Democrático (PD-L), fue diputado por el condado de Brăila en la Cámara de Diputados de Rumania entre 2004 y 2008. En el gabinete de Emil Boc , fue Ministro de Comunicaciones y Sociedad de la Información entre 2008 y 2010, y también ocupó el cargo de Ministro interino de Pequeñas y Medianas Empresas, Comercio y Entorno Empresarial a finales de 2009.

Biografía

Nació en Mizil , condado de Prahova [ 1 ] y, tras cursar la secundaria en el Instituto Teórico Grigore Tocilescu de la ciudad, con especialización en matemáticas y física, se matriculó en la Academia de Estudios Económicos de Bucarest . Se graduó en 1989 en la facultad de Comercio. De 1990 a 1993 dirigió la división de importación y exportación de una fábrica de colchones en Mizil. De 1993 a 1997 fue vicepresidente de una empresa fabricante y distribuidora de muebles en Bucarest . De 1997 a 2004 fue director de una empresa privada. [ 3 ]

Tras unirse a la Unión de Fuerzas de Derecha (UFD), Sandu se convirtió en presidente de su sección del condado de Prahova en 1999. Posteriormente fue vicepresidente (2000-2001) y secretario general (2001-2003) del partido antes de su absorción por el Partido Nacional Liberal (PNL). De 2003 a 2004, fue miembro suplente del comité ejecutivo del PNL y vicepresidente de su sección del condado de Prahova. En noviembre de 2004, fue elegido diputado, donde formó parte del Comité de Economía Política, Reforma y Privatización. De 2004 a 2006, fue miembro del comité ejecutivo del PNL y vicepresidente de su sección del condado de Brăila. [ 3 ] En diciembre de 2006, renunció al PNL para unirse a Theodor Stolojan en el nuevo Partido Liberal Democrático (PLD), [ 4 ] donde se desempeñó como vicepresidente de consolidación y desarrollo organizativo. Un año después, cuando el PLD se fusionó con el PD-L, Sandu se unió al partido y desde entonces ha ocupado los cargos de vicepresidente y primer vicepresidente de la sección del condado de Prahova. At the 2008 election, Sandu ran for a Prahova County Senate seat, but lost.[5] During the campaign, two builders accused him of not paying 87,724 lei (some $35,000) for two houses he ordered built in Sinaia; his name was also cited by an anti-money laundering agency regarding his dealings with an Italian company that was itself suspected of laundering.[6] The following month, he was named minister in the incoming government.[7] His priorities as minister include rapidly accessing European UnionStructural Funds, increasing interoperability among government agencies, developing the IT and broadband sectors, and digital television transition.[8] In October 2009, he became interim Small and Medium Enterprises Minister following the resignation of his PSD cabinet colleagues, including Constantin Niță, the previous occupant of that ministry, holding the portfolio until December.[9][10] He was dismissed from the Communications Ministry in September 2010, following a cabinet reshuffle.[11]

Sandu was implicated in the Microsoft licensing corruption scandal, being charged with bribe-taking and money laundering. In March 2016, the High Court of Cassation and Justice sentenced him to two years' imprisonment and asset forfeiture of €2.2 million.[12] That October, the court increased his prison sentence to three years.[13]
