GoodBooks fue una banda inglesa de rock indie originaria de Sevenoaks, en Kent . Llamaron la atención de los medios por primera vez tras el lanzamiento de su EP autoeditado Valves and Robots en junio de 2005.

La banda firmó con Transgressive Records a finales de 2005 para un sencillo ^{[ 1 ]} y lanzó "Walk With Me" en abril, antes de firmar con Columbia Records poco después. GoodBooks se disolvió tras su último concierto el 28 de junio de 2009.

El nombre GoodBooks le fue sugerido a Max Cooke en un concierto por la presentadora de televisión infantil Holly Willoughby . ^{[ 2 ]}

La evolución de GoodBooks comenzó cuando Max Cooke y Leo von Bülow-Quirk empezaron a hacer versiones de los Beatles en su ático cuando tenían 8 años. No fue hasta 2001 que la banda tomó forma cuando en la escuela Sevenoaks en Kent, Cooke y von Bülow-Quirk se unieron a Chris Porter y JP Duncan para formar The Fingerprints. The Fingerprints iniciaron su carrera musical grabando de forma independiente dos álbumes: Cards on the Table, Clothes on the Floor y Miranda . Canciones como "Tangerine" aparecieron en estaciones de radio locales como BBC Radio Kent y KMFM . La banda también comenzó a dar conciertos en el sureste de Inglaterra durante este tiempo, con actuaciones regulares en el Tunbridge Wells Forum que les ayudaron a desarrollar una modesta base de fans regional, llegando a actuar frente a 8.000 personas en una Navidad memorable.

Fingerprints se disolvió a finales de 2004 cuando su bajista se marchó. La banda decidió continuar como cuarteto y el día de su primer ensayo crearon "Walk With Me". La banda siguió componiendo más canciones, pero esta vez con un sonido más maduro e influenciado por la música electrónica . De esas sesiones surgieron temas para el EP Valves and Robots, como "Passchendaele" e "Isabella", que no solo se convirtieron en favoritos de los fans, sino que también impresionaron a figuras influyentes de la industria y, a finales de 2005, la banda firmó un contrato para un sencillo único con el sello independiente Transgressive Records .

The following months saw GoodBooks establishing a place within the UKalternative scene on a wider scale with gigs all over the country, notably supporting Art Brut and a gig with The Magic Numbers in Sweden. "Walk With Me" was rerecorded and was released as the band's debut single on Transgressive on 3 April 2006 on 7" vinyl and cassette only (one of only a very small number of cassette singles released that year). The video was shown on MTV2 and NME awarded it Runner-Up in its track of the week section, proclaiming GoodBooks "the best new band in Britain".^[3]

The band were approached by Columbia Records at the start of 2006 and signed a deal in May, releasing the singles "Turn it Back" and "Leni" in the second half of 2006 as well as making important and well-received performances at the Carling Reading and Leeds Festivals and the Truck Festival; their debut album, Control, was released on 30 July 2007 in the UK.^[4] The band maintained a Myspace page with updates on their progress. This page reported that their second album, with the working title 'Cry Of The Hunters', was completed and would be released in Summer 2009. NME claimed that this would occur on 4 May, although the album has yet to be released.

GoodBooks disbanded after Glastonbury 2009, where they played their last set on the John Peel Stage on 28 June 2009.^[5]
