Alto Sheriff de Cumbria

El alto sheriff es el cargo secular más antiguo de la Corona. Antiguamente, el alto sheriff era el principal funcionario encargado de hacer cumplir la ley en el condado, pero a lo largo de los siglos, la mayoría de las responsabilidades asociadas al puesto se han transferido a otros lugares o han desaparecido, por lo que sus funciones son ahora en gran medida ceremoniales. El cargo de alto sheriff cambia cada abril.

El cargo de Alto Sheriff de Cumbria existe desde la creación del condado no metropolitano y ceremonial de Cumbria en 1974, que supuso la abolición de las antiguas jurisdicciones de Cumberland y Westmorland . Además de Cumberland y Westmorland, Cumbria también incluye antiguas partes de Lancashire y el West Riding de Yorkshire .

El condado no metropolitano de Cumbria fue abolido el 1 de abril de 2023 y reemplazado por dos autoridades unitarias conocidas como Cumberland y Westmorland and Furness .
