Lawrence Holofcener (23 de febrero de 1926 – 4 de marzo de 2017) fue un escultor, poeta, letrista, dramaturgo, novelista, actor y director estadounidense-británico. Poseía doble nacionalidad británica y estadounidense . [ 1 ]

Primeros años de vida

Holofcener nació en Baltimore , Maryland , hijo de Edward A. y Lillian S. (Stulman) Holofcener. Asistió a la Universidad de Maryland y a la Universidad de Wisconsin-Madison , donde conoció y actuó con Jerry Bock . [ 2 ] Juntos escribieron canciones para Big as Life y Your Show of Shows , protagonizadas por Sid Caesar , Imogene Coca y Carl Reiner . Trabajo de actuación

Su carrera actoral comenzó en una revista de club nocturno en Nueva York en el Upstairs at the Downstairs . Su primer trabajo teatral fue en Stop the World – I Want to Get Off en Broadway. Luego, en 1964, interpretó a Cornelius en Hello, Dolly!, primero con Carol Channing , luego con Ginger Rogers . Apareció en la película para televisión de 1981 Thin Ice [ 7 ] (protagonizada por Kate Jackson ), así como en Walking and Talking , [ 8 ] escrita y dirigida por su hija, Nicole Holofcener .

Escribiendo

La primera exposición de Holofcener tuvo lugar en 1979 en el Museo de Arte Gibbes de Charleston, Carolina del Sur . Le siguieron numerosas exposiciones, premios y encargos. Durante su exposición en el Centro Educativo de AT&T en Princeton, Nueva Jersey, Lawrence creó The Box , una obra que se incorporó a su colección. [ 13 ]

En 1985, en el Chichester Festival Theatre , Laurence Olivier desveló el retrato de Holofcener, «Rostros de Olivier», y diez años después, el mismo día, en Bond Street , Londres, la princesa Margarita desveló sus retratos de Winston Churchill y Franklin Roosevelt . Other life-size portraits of Thomas Chatterton, William Tyndale and William Penn are in Bristol, England.[1] In 1998, Holofcener embarked on a major series celebrating the contributions made by 20th Century icons, among them Albert Einstein, John F Kennedy, Mother Teresa, Martin Luther King Jr., Nelson Mandela, Frank Sinatra, Muhammad Ali, Mahatma Gandhi, Anne Frank, Eleanor Roosevelt, Leonard Bernstein, Albert Schweitzer, the Three Tenors and John Lennon.[19][20]

Personal life and death

Holofcener was married twice, first to Carol Joffe, with whom he has two daughters, Suzanne Holofcener and director Nicole Holofcener.[21] They divorced in 1961.[21] He later married Julia Cornforth.[22]

He died in March 2017 at the age of 91.[23]
