NoComply

Active between 1998 and 2006, NoComply were a metal-influenced punk rock sextet hailing from Plymouth, Devon in the south of England. They were one of several UK bands mixing ska punk with other genres in the early 2000s.^[1]

NoComply formed in the autumn of 1998. The founder members were Kelly (vocals), Jon (guitars), and Nick (bass). The final line up was completed by Si (drums), Oz (trombone), and Matt (saxophone). They took their name from the skateboarding trick known as "no comply". Early incarnations of the band were driven by covering the likes of Pennywise and AFI in Jon’s bed, all learnt from the internet. In these early years the band produced three demos Never Unknown, Bring It On, and Should Have Guessed. The band honed their sound as they introduced a brass section into the proceedings and in 2001 recorded their demo Misuse Of Control. The band’s evolution took them into the altogether harder territory of ska-core pioneered by underground legends like CapDown and Link 80.^[2]

The band went straight out on the road with Asian Man Records' MU330 on a mammoth UK tour. It wasn’t long after that the band came to the attention of the Big Cheese Magazine offshoot Deck Cheese Records & they joined to their roster in the summer of 2002.^[2]

En agosto de 2002, NoComply entró al estudio para grabar tres temas nuevos para su EP debut en Deck Cheese. Dos de los temas del álbum Misuse Of Control se añadieron para completar el EP titulado Your Life (Is Your Direction) . Este EP se publicó en septiembre de 2002, con grabaciones más pesadas y potentes que nunca.

NoComply teloneó a grupos como RX Bandits , Capdown , Lightyear e incluso a la banda de pop punk Good Charlotte . En el verano de 2003, NoComply realizó su primer viaje a Europa continental con los chicos de Honest Don, Nerf Herder . A su regreso, NoComply fue invitado al estudio Maida Vale de la BBC para grabar una sesión para el programa The Lock Up de Radio 1. En noviembre de 2003, el vídeo de Your Life (Is Your Direction) debutó en el número 2 de la lista de Scuzz TV , siendo superado solo por Funeral for a Friend .

NoComply grabó su álbum debut de larga duración para Deck Cheese Records titulado With Windmills Turning Wrong Directions en No Recording Studios con John Hannon (Five Knuckle, Adequate 7 ) como productor durante febrero y marzo de 2004. Publicado poco después, Punktastic afirmó que el disco mostraba una progresión musical, destacando que la banda había combinado con éxito sonidos heavy y ska. ^{[ 1 ]}

La banda abrió la etapa británica del festival Deconstruction de 2004 y también encabezó el segundo escenario del Hell's Angels Bulldog Bash. NoComply también participó en la etapa de Leeds del festival Carling Weekend de 2004. Tras una gira por el Reino Unido, realizaron una gira por Europa continental. En 2005, la banda actuó en el escenario Radio One Lock Up de ambas etapas del Carling Weekend, seguido poco después por dos conciertos como teloneros de Alkaline Trio y Me First and the Gimme Gimmes en Alemania.
