Prasonisi

El cabo Prasonisi (también Prassoníssi ) forma parte de la isla de Rodas . Se encuentra a 92 km de la ciudad de Rodas y a 40 kilómetros de Lindos , en la parte sur de Rodas. ^{[ 1 ]}

Prasonisi es la palabra griega para "isla verde". Durante el verano, cuando el nivel del agua es lo suficientemente bajo, esta isla es una península unida a Rodas por un tómbolo . ^{[ 2 ]} Durante el invierno, cuando el nivel del agua es lo suficientemente alto, Prasonisi se convierte en una isla. En el extremo sur de Prasonisi se encuentra el faro de Prasonisi . El pueblo griego más cercano es Katavia ; sin embargo, en Prasonisi hay un asentamiento construido expresamente para ello que cuenta con moteles , tiendas de conveniencia , restaurantes y alquiler de tablas de windsurf, que abren por temporada. Cerca de Prasonisi se encuentra Vroulia , un antiguo asentamiento que conserva un antiguo suelo de mosaico. ^{[ 1 ]}

Prasonisi es conocido como un destino ideal para practicar windsurf y kitesurf debido a sus vientos predecibles y constantes (sin rachas fuertes, dirección constante y en momentos específicos del día). ^{[ 1 ] [ 3 ]} A un lado del cabo se encuentra el mar Egeo , con buenas olas y vistas para surfistas avanzados. Al otro lado, está el mar Mediterráneo , con aguas tranquilas, más adecuadas para principiantes. La temporada alta para el turismo se da en julio y agosto, y la zona de aguas tranquilas se llena de gente.

Due to the large number of tourists that gather there, Prasonisi has lost its pristine beauty and there is substantial evidence of environmental damage. Visitors (mostly tourists) used to drive all around the beach with scooters and cars.^[1] As such, the sand has become compacted and has solidified, and it is almost like concrete at certain parts of the beach, although this is changing since the creation of a line that cannot be crossed by vehicles. The protected turtle, known as Caretta caretta, used to hide its eggs at the specific region, but this rarely happens anymore due to the lack of environmental management of the territory. For this reason, rigorous protective measures have to be undertaken to protect virgin nature landscapes and ancient archaeological sites in the area.^[1]

The local authorities have been unable to organize any services or take the appropriate steps to ensure the preservation of the area. Large motor homes are allowed onto certain areas of the sandbar without any charged fees which could have been a source of revenue to provide services such as sanitary, water etc. to the motor home users and other Prasonisi visitors.

The sandy isthmus, or tombolo, that connects the island to Rhodes in the summer is not a constant formation. The tombolo requires sand deposits from wave currents and patterns to build up the landmass. While the island does protect it from rogue wave patterns from the northeast that would erode the deposits, waves from the southeast can erode the landmass.^[2]

Prasonisi is included in the Natura 2000 as an environmental protected area.^[2]
