El municipio de Salem ( en sueco : Salems kommun ) es un municipio del condado de Estocolmo , en el centro-este de Suecia . Su nombre tiene su origen en Slæm en el siglo XIII, pero se cambió a Salem en el siglo XVII, inspirado en el nombre bíblico de Jerusalén . [ 3 ] Su sede se encuentra en Salem .
Historia
Al igual que el resto de las zonas que rodean el lago Mälaren , Salem cuenta con una cantidad significativa de restos antiguos, algunos de ellos de la Edad de Piedra . La iglesia de Salem data del siglo XII. El monumento histórico más antiguo de Salem es una iglesia que data de principios del siglo XII.
Al igual que su vecino municipal oriental , Botkyrka , Salem remonta su historia al legendario San Botvid , quien vivió en la zona entre 1050 y 1120. Según la tradición medieval , siempre se encontraba un manantial asociado a la muerte de un santo. De acuerdo con la leyenda, cuando los restos de San Botvid fueron trasladados a la iglesia de la actual Botkyrka, el ataúd se colocó temporalmente cerca de la orilla del lago Bornsjön , donde brotó un manantial. Este manantial continúa proporcionando agua cristalina hasta el día de hoy. El nombre de la parroquia "Slaem" se mencionó por primera vez en una carta escrita por el rey Magnus Ladulås en 1283. Hoy
Salem estuvo unida al municipio de Botkyrka durante la reforma municipal sueca entre 1971 y 1974. Sin embargo, en 1983, tras enérgicas protestas, se separaron y Salem se convirtió en el decimocuarto municipio más pequeño del país por superficie.
Salem cuenta con una estación, Rönninge , en la línea de tren de cercanías entre Södertälje y Märsta vía Estocolmo . También hay una buena red de líneas de autobús.
El número de personas en Salem es aproximadamente un 30% menor durante el día debido a que tiene el mayor porcentaje de personas en el condado de Estocolmo que trabajan fuera de su propio municipio. [ 5 ]

Residents include everyone registered as living in the district, regardless of age or citizenship status. Valid voters indicate Swedish citizens above the age of 18 who therefore can vote in general elections. Left vote and right vote indicate the result between the two major blocs in said district in the 2022 general election. Employment indicates the share of people between the ages of 20 and 64 who are working taxpayers. Foreign background is defined as residents either born abroad or with two parents born outside of Sweden. Median income is the received monthly income through either employment, capital gains or social grants for the median adult above 20, also including pensioners in Swedish kronor. The section about college graduates indicates any degree accumulated after high school.
In total there were 17,219 residents, including 11,967 Swedish citizens of voting age.[6] 44.3% voted for the left coalition and 54.2% for the right coalition. Indicators are in percentage points except population totals and income.
Residents with a foreign background
In 2017 the number of people with a foreign background (persons born outside of Sweden or with two parents born outside of Sweden) was 4 643, or 27.86% of the population (16 665 in 2017). In 2002 the number of residents with a foreign background was (per the same definition) 2 468, or 17.79% of the population (13 875 in 2002).[7] In 2017 there were 16 665 residents in Salem, of which 3 270 people (19.62%) were born in a country other than Sweden. Divided by country in the table below - the Nordic countries as well as the 12 most common countries of birth outside of Sweden for Swedish residents have been included, with other countries of birth bundled together by continent by Statistics Sweden.[8]
