Soothran ( malayalam : സൂത്രൻ) es el protagonista titular de la serie de cómics india que aparece regularmente en la revista infantil malayalam Balarama. ^{[ 1 ]} Los cómics están conceptualizados por Luis Fernandes (el editor de Tinkle ) y NM Mohan , escritos por Madhavan Namboothiri e ilustrados (actualmente) por Simi Muhamma. ^{[ 2 ] [ 3 ]}

La historia gira en torno a un astuto chacal llamado Soothran que vive en una cueva en la selva. Su mejor amigo, Sheru, es un tigre tonto y cobarde. Las tiras cómicas narran las aventuras de los dos amigos y se caracterizan por sus divertidos giros argumentales .

La tira cómica, lanzada a mediados de 2001 (julio), fue un gran éxito. ^{[ 1 ]} A diferencia de otras tiras cómicas en malayalam , se popularizó enormemente entre la juventud de Kerala y pronto se convirtió en la tira insignia de la revista. Hasta la fecha, se han publicado más de 500 tiras semanales de Soothran , cada una de aproximadamente 4 o 5 páginas.

"Soothran" fue creada por Luis Fernandes, editor de la revista Tinkle, y NM Mohan para Balarama en 2001. Simi Muhamma, artista de Muhamma en Alleppey, dibuja actualmente los cómics y Madhavan Namboothiri prepara el guion.

Sootran

Sootran (സൂത്രൻ) es el protagonista del cómic y toda la historia gira en torno a él. Sootran es un zorro de estatura mediana, pero también astuto. Lo acompaña su amigo Sheru. En la mayoría de los casos, Sootran intenta encontrar soluciones o sacar provecho de las situaciones que se presentan. En cualquier caso, él (y su amigo) terminan en problemas. Cuidar al hijo de Kadiyan es un gran dilema para el dúo, por lo que se esmeran en protegerlo y, al mismo tiempo, entretenerlo.

Sheru

Sheru el tigre (ഷേരു കടുവ) es el mejor amigo de Sootran, y Sheru no existe sin Sootran, ni viceversa. Sheru es leal (aunque algo obediente) a Sootran y lo acompaña en todas sus aventuras. Sheru parece desinteresado, monótono e inocente en comparación con Sootran. Sheru es de complexión fuerte, pero termina siendo malo, al igual que Sootran. Algunos podrían pensar que es tonto, pero es sumamente inocente y habla muy poco.

Kadiyan

Kadiyan el león (കടിയൻ സിംഹം) es un personaje importante, al igual que la pareja mencionada anteriormente. Kadiyan actúa como un matón y no duda en atacar a quien se le antoja. A pesar de que suele razonar con Sootran, Kadiyan es un personaje negativo. El hecho de que contrate a Sootran para que cuide de su hijo demuestra la gran confianza que deposita en él.

Sin embargo, terminan muy mal, ya que no logran mantenerlo a salvo. En la mayoría de las historias, Kadiyan los estrangula a ambos por poner en peligro la seguridad de su hijo.

Ajagajan

Ajagajan (അജഗജൻ)the goat is a guest character who is not a regular but inseparable one in the storyline. Ajagajan is a scared goat who somehow got into the forest ( somehow he act like that) pray to god to keep him safe. He is a white goat with peculiar ornaments ( religiously sacred maybe). He utters verses all the time free styling the situation. He is good rapper as it appears, he effortlessly juggles rhymes and sophisticated terms with great eloquence. Many remember instances where Sootran and Sheru conspiring to eat the Goat.

Kaattumuthappan

Kaattumuthappan (കാട്ടുമുതപ്പൻ)is the god or a deity which is a character and is mentioned several hundred times by every animals in the story. When prayed to him,he will appear in the form of the species of the animal who called him. They pop a phrase " ente kaattumuthappa , chathicho?!" meaning " My god , have we screwed up!?"when they get into trouble. He is known to make the wish of the animals come true like a genie.

Moonga Vaidhyar

Moonga Vaidhyar (മൂങ്ങ വൈദ്യർ)is an owl who knows medicines and remedies. Animals in pain consult him in the stories. He is an often appearing character in the comics. In olden times, the first stories of Soothran, Moonga Vaidhyar used to sit on a hole in the tree. But the stories now feature him sitting on a branch.

Karinjunni

Karinjunni (കരിഞ്ഞുണ്ണി)is a black cat who is rarely seen in the comics. His first appearance dates back to the balarama issue of 17 June 2006. He is often portrayed as being the one who brings bad luck (based on the superstition of seeing a black cat).

• Soothran comics have also been published as special summer month collections, starting in 2003.
• Akku and Ikku is a spin-off story from the Soothran universe and appeared in "Balarama" magazine.
• Soothran and Sheru appear in a series of crossover comics known as All the Best.^[1]
• Many characters in the Soothran stories don't have a name. One such example is the yellow bird who brings news of Kadiyan the lion to Soothran.
• Moonga Vaidhyar the owl used to sit in a hole in the tree but now sits on a tree branch.
