Steven Henry Scheuer ( / ʃ ɔɪ ə r / SHOY-er ) (9 de enero de 1926 – 31 de mayo de 2014) fue un historiador y crítico de cine y televisión. Editó Movies on TV, publicado entre 1958 y 1993, y escribió The Movie Book (1974), subtitulado A Comprehensive, Authoritative, Omnibus Volume on Motion Pictures and the Cinema World . Fue moderador de la serie de televisión sindicada All About TV de 1969 a 1990. En 2002, presentó y produjo una serie de 13 programas para la televisión pública, Television in America: An Autobiography .

Vida

Scheuer nació en la ciudad de Nueva York en 1926. Sus hermanos fueron James H. Scheuer , congresista de Nueva York durante 13 legislaturas ; Walter Scheuer, inversor y productor de cine; y Richard Scheuer, académico y filántropo. También tuvo una hermana, Amy Scheuer Cohen. Las películas en las series de televisión

Movies on TV, first published in 1958 under the title TV Movie Almanac & Rating, was the first guide of its kind. It contained capsule reviews and ratings of movies using a four star rating system. By the release of Leonard Maltin's similarly titled TV Movies in September 1969 (later rebranded Leonard Maltin's Movie Guide), there had been five editions of Scheuer's book under four different names. At that time it contained 7,000 films compared to 8,000 in Maltin's TV Movies.[5] It wasn't until the eighth edition (1978–79) that Scheuer started to include the movie's director and expanded the short synopses.[6] It was renamed Movies on TV and Videocassette in 1989. Scheuer's book differed from Maltin's in that it featured a greater number of made-for-television productions, including aired television pilots that Maltin's book omitted.
