Tenri Station

Tenri Station (天理駅, Tenri-eki) is a junction passenger railway station located in the city of Tenri, Nara, Japan. It is operated by West Japan Railway Company (JR West) and by the private transportation company, Kintetsu Railway.^[1]

Although the JR station is on the Sakurai Line as rail infrastructure, it has been served by the Man-yō Mahoroba Line since 2010 in terms of passenger train services. It is 14.3 kilometers from the starting point of the line at Nara. Tenri Station is also the terminus of the 4.5 Tenri Line of the Kintetsu Railway from Hirahata.

The platforms for the JR portion of the station are elevated, and are located on the second floor of the station building. The station consists of two island platforms and four tracks, but only platforms 3 and 4 are in use. Platforms 1 and 2 are used as group-only platforms, and are usually used by out-of-service trains in the early morning to remove rust from the rails, and the stairs to the platforms are closed. Ticket gates, including those for groups, are on the first floor, and the south side of the first floor under the elevated track is the JR station facilities (waiting room, ticket gates, and concourse). The Tenri Line enters the station from the west at a right angle to JR West on the first floor. The station has four terminal platforms and three tracks, and there is a siding (track number 4) on the west side of the station. Platforms 2 and 3 are usually used, but platform 1 may be used during the Tenrikyo monthly festival.^[2]

La estación se inauguró el 11 de mayo de 1898 como Estación Tanbachi (丹波市駅) en el Ferrocarril de Nara. En 1905, la estación pasó a formar parte del Ferrocarril de Kansai, que fue nacionalizado por los Ferrocarriles del Gobierno Japonés (predecesor de JNR) en 1907. El 7 de febrero de 1915, el Ferrocarril Ligero de Tenri amplió su ruta hasta Tenri. El Ferrocarril Ligero de Tenri fue adquirido por el Ferrocarril Eléctrico de Osaka (predecesor de Kintetsu) en 1921. La compañía se fusionó con el Ferrocarril Expreso de Sangu el 15 de marzo de 1941 para convertirse en el Ferrocarril Expreso de Kansai. El Ferrocarril Expreso de Kansai se fusionó con el Ferrocarril Nankai para formar Kintetsu el 1 de junio de 1944. ^{[ 3 ]} La estación Tanbaichi de JNR pasó a llamarse Estación Tenrishi (天理市駅) el 25 de mayo de 1963. Las estaciones de JNR y Kintetsu se fusionaron el 1 de septiembre de 1965, convirtiéndose la estación en Estación Tenri. Con la privatización de los Ferrocarriles Nacionales de Japón (JNR) el 1  de abril de 1987, la estación de JNR fue transferida a JR West .

En el año fiscal 2019, la estación JR fue utilizada por un promedio de 2578 pasajeros diarios, mientras que la sección Kintetsu de la estación fue utilizada por 6341 pasajeros diarios (solo pasajeros que embarcaban). ^{[ 4 ]}
