El tren real

" El tren real " es el tercer episodio de la sexta temporada de la serie de comedia británica Dad's Army . Se emitió originalmente el 14 de noviembre de 1973, día de la boda de la princesa Ana y Mark Phillips .

El rey Jorge VI tiene previsto pasar por Walmington-on-Sea en tren, y el pelotón debe proporcionar la guardia de honor . Un tren llega puntualmente, pero es el equivocado, y tanto el maquinista como el fogonero se quedan dormidos tras beber té que, por accidente, contenía las pastillas para dormir de la señora Mainwaring. Ahora el pelotón debe mover el tren para despejar la vía para el tren del rey. ^{[ 1 ]}

Jones está arreglando a Wilson en la oficina del vicario, preparándose para ir a la estación para un desfile especial, en el que Mainwaring abrirá unas órdenes selladas. Mainwaring llega, después de haber ido a la farmacia a comprar pastillas para dormir para la Sra. Mainwaring; le dice a Wilson que ella es "una mujer muy nerviosa y muy tensa". Jones relata cómo los únicos medicamentos que tenían en Sudán eran cáscara sagrada y bicarbonato de sodio ; "buenos para hacerte correr y eructar, pero poco más". Pike llega, insistiendo en que es su turno de llevar la metralleta Thompson , y accidentalmente tira las pastillas para dormir del escritorio al suelo, rompiendo el frasco. Jones dice que los fragmentos de vidrio rotos podrían ser fatales si la Sra. Mainwaring los comiera, pero Mainwaring parece no preocuparse. Las pastillas se colocan en un frasco etiquetado como sacarina .

En la estación, Frazer prepara té para el pelotón, mientras que Walker lo ha suministrado y cobra 3 peniques por taza. Pike le pregunta a Mainwaring si, una vez que haya leído las órdenes secretas, se las va a comer, a lo que Jones se ofrece voluntario para hacerlo.

Mainwaring entra en la cocina y abre las órdenes secretas, dejando en el proceso la botella de jarabe sobre la mesa. Sale y reúne al pelotón a su alrededor, luego revela discretamente que el rey Jorge VI pasará pronto por la estación en el Tren Real , que ha sido camuflado. El pelotón debe custodiar la estación y presentar armas cuando el tren pase a toda velocidad. Mainwaring enfatiza el secreto, pero entonces llega Hodges gritando "¿Ya ha llegado el Rey?", arruinando el secreto. El pelotón practica la presentación de armas, luego llegan el jefe de estación y el revisor, nerviosos, y se apresuran a vestirse adecuadamente. El pelotón practica un poco más, y llegan el vicario, el sacristán y el alcalde, ataviados con sus mejores galas, tras enterarse de la llegada del Rey.

A train whistle gets them all rushing out onto the platform, but it is a slow stopping train pulling only one coach and a small flatbed. The driver and fireman get off, holding a defective steam brake wheel, and go to the office to telephone the depot. Whilst there, they make a cup of tea each, and load it with pills from the saccharine bottle, mistaking it for sugar.

Mainwaring checks the train politely for the King or his Equerry, only to find the coach empty except for one man who is clearly not the King. The station master reappears and complains that this train is in the way, but the crew are now asleep in the kitchen, having consumed the sleeping tablets. Pike tells Mainwaring he can drive it, so whilst the station master is on the phone, the platoon climb into the cab and set off. They soon begin to enjoy themselves and love the ride. The station master rushes out after they have gone and discovers the verger clutching the defective brake wheel.

In the engine cab, Pike announces to Mainwaring that, because of the absence of the brake wheel, he is unable to stop the train, starting a panic among the men. Frazer spots the vicar, verger, Hodges and the mayor chasing them on a handcar. Mainwaring starts to make his way over the top of the train to retrieve the missing wheel that the verger is brandishing, and although Jones goes with Mainwaring, he is as usual a complete liability, and Mainwaring has to save him from falling off several times. Once they reach the back of the train, Hodges throws the wheel, and Mainwaring catches it, then he and Jones start to make their way back to the cab. Whilst they are on top of the train, Pike attempts to stop the engine by putting it into reverse, and they are nearly thrown off.

The train starts to return to the station and the others on the handcar have to work hard to keep ahead of the train. The station master changes the points to direct the car and train into a siding, and they all tumble out just as the real Royal Train is heard approaching. They have to parade just where they are by the line, which happens to be in front of a water trough, so the group gets soaked as the train passes.

2. Las imágenes de archivo del tren real muestran una locomotora LNER Clase A4 en un tramo de la línea principal de la costa este, cerca de Burnmouth , en la frontera escocesa. Al fondo se puede ver Cliff Cottage, situada en la carretera costera que lleva al puerto de Burnmouth.
3. La locomotora utilizada para el tren local era una Kitson 0-6-0 de tanque lateral " Colwyn ", que perteneció a Stewarts & Lloyds en Corby . En 2012, la locomotora estaba ubicada en el ferrocarril de Northampton & Lamport y estaba siendo restaurada por una empresa local.
4. El pelotón cree erróneamente que el rey ha llegado en un tren de aspecto destartalado, que resulta ser un tren local con paradas intermedias. En realidad, por motivos de seguridad, la familia real y los principales políticos de la época de la guerra solían viajar en trenes discretos para no llamar la atención, como menciona el pelotón.
5. Los abrevaderos nunca fueron utilizados por la Southern Railway , que habría dado servicio a Walmington-on-Sea.
