Vant (stylised as VANT) were an English indie rock band, formed in 2014 by frontman and songwriter Mattie Vant. In 2015, Vant signed to Parlophone Records.[4] The band announced an "indefinite hiatus" in 2017 to take effect at the end of their Last Days of Punk tour during November. The band released a new song, "Propaganda Machine" in December 2018 and teased new music in 2019.[6]

Vant currently performs under the name Father Hell.[7]

Background

The band came together in London, while Mattie was working at Dalston venue, Birthdays.[8] Originally from Seaham, Mattie has played in various bands, formulating the style for Vant while living in Brighton.[9]

A lot of Vant's lyrical themes deal with political issues, with Mattie citing inspiration from global issues; "My concerns are worldwide things. It's not strictly centred around the UK - it's wars, global conflict, global warming".[9] With this philosophy, Vant prefer to refer to their origin as 'Planet Earth' - rather than associate with a particular nationality. Of this issue, Mattie says "I don't believe in borders, I was born on Planet Earth".[10] This is evidenced in the lyrics to "Birth Certificate".[11]

Vant toured throughout 2015 and have made appearances with Royal Blood,[12] toured on DIY Magazine's NEU tour with The Big Moon and InHeaven[13] and appeared at several festivals through the summer, including Reading and Leeds Festivals,[14]Secret Garden Party[15] and Dot To Dot Festival. They started 2016 with an appearance on BBC Radio 1's Future Festival[16] and toured the UK and Europe through the beginning of the year. They continue into festivals through the summer, including Glastonbury Festival, 2000 Trees, Japan's Fuji Rock Festival, Reading and Leeds Festivals, plus one off dates with Biffy Clyro and Catfish and the Bottlemen.[17]

Las canciones "The Answer", "Parking Lot", "Fly by Alien", "Karma Seeker" y "Peace & Love" se estrenaron en BBC Radio 1 como el "Canción más popular del mundo" de Annie Mac . [ 18 ] [ 19 ] [ 20 ] [ 21 ] [ 22 ] La canción "Parking Lot" apareció en el tráiler del videojuego Pro Evolution Soccer 2017. El tema también aparece en la banda sonora del juego.

La banda lanzó su álbum debut, Dumb Blood, el 17 de febrero de 2017. Alcanzó el puesto número 46 en la lista de álbumes del Reino Unido .

El 2 de octubre de 2017, la banda anunció a través de una publicación en Facebook que se tomarían un "descanso indefinido". Con el anuncio, la banda también declaró que su próxima gira, "The Last Days of Punk", sería la última y anunció un miniálbum final titulado Talk like Thunder . [ 23 ]

El 18 de noviembre de 2018, exactamente un año después del último concierto de la banda, se publicó un video en las redes sociales de la banda donde aparecía el vocalista Mattie, además de que sus fotos de perfil se convirtieron en una pantalla negra y el nombre de la banda se cambió a minúsculas. [ 24 ] El 3 de diciembre, quienes se habían suscrito a la lista de correo de la banda recibieron un enlace a una nueva canción titulada "Propaganda Machine". [ 6 ] La canción mostraba a la banda alejándose del sonido punk rock de su música anterior y girando hacia un sonido inspirado en el hip-hop/pop. El 12 de abril, la banda lanzó el EP Exoskeleton , que incluía "Propaganda Machine" y el sencillo previamente lanzado "Thank Lucifer". [ 25 ]
