Historia

WSKU comenzó a transmitir en 1990 como WOWB-FM 105.5, con licencia en Little Falls. La estación fue licenciada a Towpath Communications Limited como una estación de música contemporánea para adultos y, después de un breve período como "B105", pasó a llamarse "Wow 105".

La emisora ​​fue vendida poco después a Professional Broadcasting Corporation (una empresa conjunta de Frank DuRoss y Ken Roser), que en septiembre de 1994 añadió una retransmisión simultánea en WOWZ, en la frecuencia 97.9 FM. Con licencia para Whitesboro, fue la primera asignación de la frecuencia 97.9 en el mercado de Utica. La retransmisión simultánea resultante se denominó Wow-FM.

WOWZ/WOWB se convirtió en una emisora ​​de éxitos rítmicos en diciembre de 1996. Ahora conocida como "The Beat of Central New York", "Wow-FM" adoptó un estilo bailable con JP Marks, locutor nocturno del formato de música contemporánea para adultos, al mando. Marks había sido locutor nocturno y de fin de semana en Hot 107 ( WRCK ) antes de que cambiaran su formato a rock clásico .

WOWZ y WOWB fueron vendidas a Clear Channel Communications en el año 2000. A notable stunt occurred on WSKS/WSKU on May 18, 2009. In a news release issued by Roser Communications on the Friday before, the company announced that effective 7:30 a.m. on Monday the station was going to switch formats due to "financial constraints".[3] On Monday, WSKS/WSKU, still feigning their format change, stopped playing their regular format at 7:31 a.m. and played the "beautiful music" format similar to that presented by then-sister stations WADR/WUTQ.[4] A few hours later, WSKS/WSKU returned to its normal programming by announcing that all of the "format changes"[5] were actually a publicity stunt to promote their new program lineup and radio hosts.

On March 30, 2015, Roser Communications moved the studios of all their stations, including WSKS/WSKU, to new facilities located at the Canal Park off Leland Avenue. Prior to this, Roser Communications had been leasing space at the Adirondack Bank building on Genesee Street.
