Gretchen Osgood Warren (19 de marzo de 1871 - 13 de septiembre de 1961) fue una actriz, cantante y poeta estadounidense. Fue esposa de Fiske Warren e hija del Dr. Hamilton Osgood y Margaret Cushing Osgood, residentes de Beacon Hill , Boston, Massachusetts. Su hermana menor fue Mary Alden Childers , esposa del escritor y nacionalista irlandés Erskine Childers . Su sobrino , Erskine Hamilton Childers, fue el cuarto presidente de Irlanda, cargo que ocupó de 1973 a 1974.

Primeros años de vida

Podía cantar perfectamente afinada, escribir como una adulta y recitar poesía a petición. [ 1 ] Su crianza en el entorno acomodado de Beacon Hill, Boston, Massachusetts, a principios de siglo, le permitió dedicarse a la música y al teatro a un alto nivel. [ 2 ]

John Singer Sargent , el famoso retratista de la élite de Boston , recibió el encargo del esposo de Warren, Fiske Warren, de pintar su retrato en abril de 1903. [ 6 ] La sesión se realizó en Fenway Court , entonces residencia de la legendaria mecenas de las bellas artes de Boston, Isabella Stewart Gardner . Warren aparece sentada en una silla con su hija, Rachel Warren. La pintura suele considerarse uno de los mejores retratos de Sargent y aparece con frecuencia en calendarios y postales de la finca Sargent. She died at her home in Boston in 1961.[11] Her daughter Rachel married the American archaeologist Samuel K. Lothrop and later the Irish nationalist Robert Childers Barton.[12]
