Robert Hurrell Froude (1771–1859) fue un sacerdote anglicano inglés, arcediano de Totnes en Devon, [ 1 ] de 1820 a 1859. [ 2 ] Desde 1799 hasta su muerte fue rector de Denbury y de Dartington en Devon. [ 3 ]

Orígenes

Froude nació en Wakeham Farm [ 4 ] en la parroquia de Aveton Gifford cerca de Modbury en Devon, hijo póstumo de Robert Froude (1741–1770) de Modbury, [ 5 ] y su esposa Phillis Hurrell (1746-1826) de Aveton Gifford, [ 5 ] cuyo retrato fue pintado por Sir Joshua Reynolds en 1762, cuatro años antes de su matrimonio. [ 6 ] La familia Froude se registra por primera vez en los registros que se conservan en Kingston, South Hams, Devon, en el siglo XVI. [ 7 ] Robert Froude (1741-1770) fue el tercer hijo de John Froude, de quien heredó las propiedades de Edmeston y Gutsford, ambas en la parroquia de Modbury en Devon. Fue el patrón de Molland -cum- Knowstone en Devon en 1767, y fue enterrado en Aveton Gifford en Devon. Carrera

Froude se matriculó en el Oriel College de Oxford en 1788, graduándose como licenciado en 1792 y como máster en 1795. [ 9 ] Era rector de Denbury cuando asumió su nueva parroquia en Dartington en 1799. [ 10 ]

His marriage to Margaret Spedding produced eight children,[11] who included Richard Hurrell Froude who was involved in the formation of the Oxford Movement;[12] the railway engineer and acclaimed hydrodynamicist William Froude[13] and the historian James Anthony Froude.[14] A graduate of Oriel College, Oxford,[15] for many years he was the Rector of Dartington .[16] and Denbury.[17] He died on 16 February 1859.[18]
