El Hyatt Regency Milwaukee está ubicado en 333 West Kilbourn Avenue, en el centro de Milwaukee , Wisconsin, Estados Unidos. Este hotel de 21 pisos fue construido en 1979 y es propiedad de Cambridge Landmark, una firma de capital privado con sede en Miami.

Fondo

El hotel fue construido en 1979 y tiene 353,054 pies cuadrados (32,799.8 m² ) con 33,000 pies cuadrados (3,100 m² ) de espacio para reuniones. [ 1 ] El Hyatt Regency es un hotel de 21 pisos y 484 habitaciones ubicado en el centro de Milwaukee , Wisconsin. Fue construido por Hunzinger Construction Company y diseñado por Py-Vavra Architects-Engineers. Una de las características más singulares del hotel es el restaurante giratorio en la azotea. Está hecho con hormigón vertido. [ 2 ] El restaurante se llamaba Polaris y abrió en 1980. El 12 de abril de 2009, cerró y el espacio se utilizó para reuniones. [ 3 ] En 2015, el área fue reabierta después de una renovación y los propietarios anunciaron que el espacio ya no giraría. [ 4 ]      

Historia

En 2007, los propietarios del hotel eran Noble Investment Group, una empresa con sede en Atlanta . [ 1 ] [ 3 ] Noble compró la propiedad a Gary Grunau y sus socios por US$43,9 millones. En 2009, Noble gastó aproximadamente US$19 millones en renovaciones. [ 5 ] En 2018, una firma de capital privado con sede en Miami (Cambridge Landmark) pagó US$37,3 millones para comprar el hotel. Los tres primeros días de la Convención Nacional Verde de 2004 se celebraron en el Hyatt Regency de Milwaukee, mientras que el último día tuvo lugar en el centro de convenciones Baird Center . [ 7 ] En 2023 se añadió el Milwaukee Skywalk para conectar el Hyatt con el Baird Center. [ 8 ]

Intento de asesinato

The hotel was built on the site of the former Gilpatrick Hotel.[9] On October 14, 1912, the Gilpatrick was the site of an assassination attempt on the former President of the United States Theodore Roosevelt.[10][11] A plaque commemorating the assassination attempt was added to the front of the Gilpatrick Hotel by the United Spanish War Veterans of Milwaukee County in 1926. After the Gilpatrick was razed the plaque was saved and stored. In 1979 the plaque was affixed to the newly constructed Hyatt Regency.[9]

On October 14, 2012, to mark the 100th anniversary of the assassination attempt, the city reenacted the event. It took place at the east entrance of the Hyatt Regency where the Gilpatrick once stood. The participants wore period costumes including several police re-enactors.[12]

Death of Dvontaye Mitchell

On June 30, 2024, Dvontaye L. Mitchell, a 43-year-old African-American man, died after being pinned to the ground by four security staff members at the hotel. The four staff were fired and have been charged for felony murder.
